ACL PHYSIOTHERAPY
The
anterior cruciate ligament is an important structure in your knee. It helps to
prevent forward slip of shin bone. ACL injury is most common in athletes such
as, basket players, skiers, soccer players and gymnasts. Non- athlete can also
experience ACL tear due to accident.
How it
occurs?-
it basically occur if you twist your knee suddenly, stop suddenly while
running, suddenly shift your weight from one leg to other, having direct hit on
your knee etc.
How can ACL physiotherapy helps?
ACL PHYSIOTHERAPY
is the treatment targeted at ACL. There are number of exercises you can do at home.
These exercises are designed to strengthen the muscle around your knee and to
regain full range of movement.

Static quads: - lie with your knee
straight and relaxed. Tighten your thigh muscles as hard as you can without
lifting your heel. Hold for 5 seconds and relax and repeat. For 7-10 times.

Heel slides: - lie with knee
straight. Gradually bend your knee by sliding your heel toward the buttocks.
Bend it as much as you can. Don’t bend beyond the pain.

Knee bend while lying on
stomach:
lie on your stomach with your leg straight. Bend your affected knee and bring
your heel towards your buttocks hold for 5 seconds. Repeat 7-10 min.

Heel raise: stand in front of chair
and place one hand on the chair for balance. Now slowly lift your affected heel
up and stand on your tiptoes. Hold and relax. Repeat.
·
Half squats: perform this exercise in standing while holding
a table with both hands. Slowly bend your knee and lower your hip into a half squat.
Hold for 5 sec. and relax. Repeat 10 times.
·
Standing on one leg: this is a great way to
build your strength and balance. Stand up on both feet. Lift your unaffected
leg and hold for 5 seconds. NOTE- this exercise will be difficult to
perform at first, but with time it will be much easier.
