DRY NEEDLING PHYSIOTHERAPY
Dry
needling is a modern technique that used by physiotherapists to treat pain and
movement impairments. In this technique, physiotherapist uses dry needle,
without any medication or injection, inserted into the skin to treat pain. The
aim is to target a trigger point in the muscle.
What is a trigger point? - It is a taut band within
the muscle developed from injury or inflammation. These triggerpoints can cause
localized pain and can cause in other areas as well.
How it basically works?
§ Pain affects how your body
moves. It is thought that dry needling changes the way that brain and muscles
talk to each other to let the system return to more normal movement pattern.
§ If dry needling is
performed near a muscle trigger point, it reduce sensitivity and reduce normal
muscle function.
§ It also causes small
increase in blood flow to the affected area, which enhances the rate of
healing.
