Your hand is small when you compared with
rest of body but it is really important for everything you do. If you are
unable to pick up objects or lift things and some other medical problems which
render you to complete even the simplest tasks. Luckily, physiotherapists can
help you to restore proper function of your hand. Hand injuries are common and
can involve various structures of your hand, such as, bones, joints, tendons,
blood vessels, nerves, skin. Some injuries resolves with time without any
treatment, but there are some injuries that require surgical interventions.
What
basically hand physiotherapy is? It is a non-surgical treatment of
hand injuries or disorders using physical methods like, exercise, splinting and
wound care.

Hand
physiotherapy intervention: - there are some exercises that you can try out at
home if you have less severe hand or wrist problems. It is highly recommended to do
any of these exercises following advice from your physiotherapist.
v Make a tight fist: make a fist as tight as you can.
Hold
for few seconds and then spread fingers apart. You can also use towel roll or
ball to make fist.
v Finger stretch: place your palm on the
table and slowly straighten your fingers as flat as you can. Hold for few
seconds, relax and repeat.
v Claw stretch: hold hand in front of
you as palm facing you. Now bend your finger tips to touch the each finger
joints. Hold, relax and repeat.
v Thumb touch: hold your hand in front
with your straight wrist. Gently touch your thumb of each four fingertips, one
at a time, making the shape of an “o”. Hold stretch for few seconds. Relax and
repeat.
(Repeat all
the exercises 10-15 times twice a day)
