PHYSIOTHERAPY FOR NECK PAIN
Neck pain- Neck pain is most
common complaint and almost all people experience neck pain at some point in
their lives. There are various factors which are responsible for causing neck
pain, such as, muscle tightness due to bad posture, overuse of neck muscles and
many other diseases can cause neck pain and reduce your neck movement.
What exactly
cause neck pain?

Overuse of neck muscles like, reading a book while sitting in
bed for longer hour, using Smartphone and computer in wrong posture, can cause
pain in your neck.

With age, the joint in your neck tend to weaken like other joints
in the body. Then, it cause bone spurs which
cause neck pain and affect joint movements.

Injury to neck can cause severe neck pain.
What are the
symptoms of neck pain?

Pain often increases in intensity by keeping your neck in
same position for long periods.
·
You can feel tightness in your neck muscles and decrease ability to move your
neck.

It can also cause headache or heaviness in your head.

Before doing
exercises- remember these facts:

All the exercises should be performed slowly and in a
controlled manner to avoid injury.
·
Don’t hold your breath. Breathe naturally like, inhale during
relaxation and exhale during exertion.
·
Don’t move your neck beyond pain. If you feel sudden
increased pain in your neck and running down to shoulder and arm. STOP the exercise immediately.
EXERCISES TO
TREAT NECK PAIN:-
We strongly recommend that you
consult with physiotherapist before doing any exercises.
Ø Neck side bend:- sit up straight with good posture
keeping your shoulders relaxed. Now tilt your head as ear comes closer to your
shoulder. Hold this position for 10 sec. and repeat this exercise 7-10 times.
Perform this exercise 2 times a day.
Ø Neck rotation:- rotate head and neck slowly from side to side. First
look at your right shoulder and then look at left one. Repeat 7-10 times and
perform this exercise 2 times a day.
Ø Place your palm on your forehead
and press it against your forehead. Try to resist the movement with your neck
muscles. Hold for 10 sec. relax and repeat this exercise 7-10 times.
Ø Again do the same exercise
as mentioned above, but this time place your hand on the side of your head and
switch sides.
Ø Do the same exercises
again, place your palm on the back of your head and press it against your head.
Ø Shoulder roll:-stand with
your arms relaxed and down at your sides. Now roll your shoulders in a circular
motion. Complete 5 rotations clockwise and 5 rotations anticlockwise. Repeat
this exercise 3-4 times.
Ø Scapular blade squeeze:
stand normally with your arms at sides. Now squeeze your shoulder blades by
moving your shoulder joint backward. Hold for 5-7 sec. and repeat 10 times.
Perform this exercise 2 times a day.
