Older people consume a disproportionately significant share of healthcare resources when compared to the general population. Despite more than 30 years of campaigning and efforts, the number of clinicians with specialized training in geriatrics is still insufficient to meet the expanding population of older persons. This article gives a current assessment of the state of geriatric education, including how geriatric coverage is valued, how geriatric competence is defined, and how students are assessed for geriatric abilities.
