Neem has been known since ancient times for its health benefits. It has been used widely for treating infections, fever, pain and cleaning teeth. All parts of the tree are used for various purposes. This medicinal plant has antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiparasitic, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, and wound-healing properties.
BENEFITS OF NEEM
1. For dental health: People use neem bark in the morning to clean their teeth since ages. Although this practice is not so common now in urban as well as rural areas but there are toothpastes available in the market that contain neem extracts. It prevents problems like plaque, bleeding from gums, bacterial build up in the mouth etc.
2. Wound healing: Neem extracts help in wound healing by increasing the blood supply to the affected part through increased inflammatory responses.
3. Improves skin health: Neem contains ample amount of oils that are good for skin along with its antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that ultimately improves skin health.
4. Antiseptic properties: Neem is well known for its antiseptic properties and is used in treating various infections and skin problems.
5. Kidney and liver health: Neem helps in fighting the oxidative stress with its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties which promotes liver and kidney health. 8. Antimalarial effects: Neem contains some compounds like limonoids that are known to have antimalarial properties. Although this is not yet scientifically proven.
9. Antifertility treatment: Some studies have been done in this aspect and it is found that neem can immobilise and kill serms. It can be used as an alternative to vasectomy.
