Wrist Pain - What to do?

Wrist pain is a common condition with various causes. The wrist joint plays a role in basic movements, from texting to writing. When pain occurs, it can interfere with day-to-day activities and even affect your quality of life. If any parts of your wrist, including the bones, ligaments, or tendons, become injured, it can lead to pain in your wrist.

What causes wrist pain?

The most common causes include the following:

·        Carpel tunnel syndrome is a condition that develops when a ligament thickens and puts pressure on a nerve. The nerve gets squeezed, you will pain, numbness, and weakness in the hand.

·        Osteoarthritis causes inflammation of the joints and occurs when the cartilage that covers your bones wears away. This can affect a wide range of joints, including the wrist.

·        Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease where healthy tissues are broken down by the body’s immune system. This can cause wrist pain if the joints in the area are affected.

·        Wrist sprain is usually caused by falling and bending the wrist backward when the hand hits the ground.

How wrist pain can hurt you?

·        Pain can interfere with everyday activities.

·        There may be little or no feeling in your hand or fingers.

·        Simple hand movements may no longer possible.

·        Weakness can makes holding things difficult.

 

 

Treatment:

Treatment will vary according to the particular condition. Some conditions can be treated at home with icing and exercises. However, if you have swelling, pain, bruising that last more than a day or two, it is worth seeing an experienced health care expert to check it.

Here are few things that you can do to ward off wrist pain:

·        Keep your bones strong by getting enough calcium vitamin D.

·        Look at the way you work or live. If it is straining you, reorganize until you are more comfortable.

·        If you are a player, it is important to think about your safety. Make sure you are protected.

·        If pain is creeping in, you can use heat or ice pack over the affected area for 15 min to reduce pain, swelling and improve movement.
